One of the biggest health problems that the world is facing is childhood obesity.
The World Health Organization has estimated that there are more than 22 million children who are under the age of five and are overweight.
Even Asian countries like Singapore and China is not spared from this phenomenon.
In Singapore, there was a report of an increase from 2.8% to 3.6% from 1994 to 2007 of obese students from primary school to junior colleges.
Poor diet and the lack of regular exercise remain as the main reasons why children are becoming obese.
In order to help obese children to lose weight, family support is extremely crucial. Parents play a very important role in helping the kids to lose weight. Exercising and eating together as a family are the mainstays of losing weight.
If the parents will to use threats, fear tactics, scolding or physical punishments, we will not encourage positive behavior changes in our kids, thus helping them to lose weight.
Getting your child active like going for walks in the parks, playing football or other ball games together as a family not only helps your kids to lose weight but also fosters good relationship within the family.
Kids in schools, as early as primary schools, are already being identified if they are overweight or obese for a certain exercise regime to help them to lose weight. If the exercise regime during the school days does not help in losing weight, then they will be sent to extended extensive training in the army to make sure the young adults lose their weight.
We have seen though that there are kids who are consuming a high fibre intake like vegetables and wholemeal products or even supplements alternative to help them lose fat, inches and weight successfully.
